ARCHIVED: Why am I having trouble connecting to Oncourse CL?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

To view basic instructions for logging in, see ARCHIVED: How do I access Oncourse? However, if you're experiencing difficulty connecting, try the following:

  • Check that your browser is set up to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections. Most browsers are set up by default to use SSL.
  • Make sure you are typing your username and passphrase correctly on the Central Authentication Service (CAS) login page. Both are case sensitive, so you must type the correct uppercase or lowercase letters. Verify that your Caps Lock key is not on.
  • Use your ADS Domain account username and passphrase for authentication. If you do not have an ADS Domain account, visit the Account Management Service page to request one. If you have an ADS Domain account, and are still having trouble connecting, try synchronizing your passphrases using the Passphrase Maintenance utility at:
      https://passphrase.iu.edu/

Once you synchronize your passphrases, there will be a short delay (about 20 minutes) before you can log in.

  • If you are using a Guest account but have not been added to a course roster, you will be able to log into CAS but still not be able to connect to Oncourse CL. In this case, you may receive the error, "Account not found." Ask your course instructor to verify that you have been correctly added to the roster.
  • If you cannot log into CAS with your Guest account, you may not have activated your Guest account after creating it. In the email account you used to create your Guest account, look for a message from IU Guest Account Services (gds@iu.edu) with a subject such as "Activate your IU Guest account now". Click the link within the message to activate your account. (To see if you can log into CAS if you cannot log into Oncourse CL, try logging into OneStart with your Guest account.)

If you still cannot connect, contact your campus Support Center.
