In Windows, how do I reinstall TCP/IP?

Windows 7 and Vista

  1. Click Start and, in the "Start Search" text box, type cmd .

  2. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open the command prompt as an administrator. Allow the elevation request. Alternatively, you can right-click cmd and click Run as Administrator.

  3. At the command prompt, enter: netsh int ip reset reset.txt
  4. Restart the computer.

Windows XP

  1. From the Start menu, select Run... .

  2. In the "Open:" field, type cmd , and then click OK.

  3. At the command prompt, enter: netsh int ip reset reset.txt

This process restores TCP/IP to the state it was in at installation. For more information on this topic for Windows XP, see article 299357 at the Microsoft Help and Support web site. For Windows Server 2003, see article 317518.
