About collecting data from students

The US federal government regulates research involving human subjects, and so has established substantial regulations that govern the collection and use of information gathered from respondents through surveys and other means of data collection.

Campus Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) oversee Indiana University's compliance with federal human subjects regulations.

For more, see the Office of Research and Administration page Human Subjects/IRB. See also The Least You Need to Know about the Rules Governing Human Subjects Research at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) (PDF file).
