To rename groups in Indiana University's Active Directory:
- Open Active Directory Users and Computers. For instructions, see In the IU Active Directory, how do I manage groups?
- Find the group you want to rename. Right-click the group and
select
Rename.
- Type the new name for the group and press
Enter.
- A box titled
Rename Groupwill pop up. Under "Group name:", the new group name should be listed. You must then type the new group name again under the box titled "Group name (pre-Windows 2000):". Then clickOK.
If you do not change the pre-Windows 2000 group name, you could have difficulty accessing and using the group in the future.
If you have already renamed your group, but did not change the pre-Windows 2000 name, there is an alternate way to set the pre-Windows 2000 group name. Follow these steps:
- Open Active Directory Users and Computers. For instructions, see In the IU Active Directory, how do I manage groups?
- Find the group you want to fix. Right-click the group and select
Properties.
- In the box that pops up, find the box next to "Group name
(pre-Windows 2000):", and type the correct name of the group. Then
click
OK.
