In Mac OS and Mac OS X, what secure FTP clients are available?
Note: For a list of SSH and SFTP clients supported by UITS, see At IU, what SSH clients are supported and where can I get them?
Secure FTP, or SFTP, is a means of transferring files securely using SSH. It is functionally similar to FTP, but FTP clients cannot communicate with SFTP servers. If you need to transfer files with a host that requires an SFTP connection, you may use one of these clients:
-
MacSFTP: MacSFTP is
a shareware program available for both Mac OS X and
Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x.
If you are an IU student, faculty member, or staff member, you can download MacSFTP from IUware Online at: http://iuware.iu.edu/
-
Fugu: Fugu is a freeware SFTP program for Mac OS X.
-
Transmit: Transmit is
a shareware program for Mac OS X that supports both FTP and SFTP.
-
sftp: OpenSSH, the command line SSH suite for
Unix, is included in Mac OS X. The
sftpprogram is available in 10.1 and later. It has no graphical interface, but if you are familiar with Unix, you may access it from the Mac OS X Terminal. For more information, read thesftpman page.
