In Cyberduck for Mac OS X, how do I set the permissions on my web pages so that web browsers can see them?

With Cyberduck, you can remotely change the permissions of files and directories on a web server. To do this, use Cyberduck to connect to the computer where you edit your web pages (e.g., Mercury or Webserve).

After you are connected:

  1. Click a directory or file that you would like to make accessible to web browsers.

  2. From the File menu, select Info. An Info window will appear.

  3. In the "Permissions:" section, there will be a table with Owner, Group, and Other listed on the left, and Read, Write, and Execute across the top.

    • To set permissions for a directory, for Owner, mark Read, Write, and Execute. For both Group and Other, mark Read and Execute.
    • To set permissions for a file, for Owner, mark Read, Write, and Execute. For Group and Other, mark only Read.
    • Unless you want other people to have the ability to modify and even delete your files or directories, make sure that the Write box is not selected for Group or Other.

If you have selected a directory, you may apply your permission settings to all files and subdirectories within it by clicking the checkbox next to Apply changes recursively.

  4. When you have set the permissions, click Apply.
