In Cyberduck for Mac OS X, how do I set the permissions on my web pages so that web browsers can see them?
With Cyberduck, you can remotely change the permissions of files and directories on a web server. To do this, use Cyberduck to connect to the computer where you edit your web pages (e.g., Mercury or Webserve).
After you are connected:
- Click a directory or file that you would like to make accessible
to web browsers.
- From the
Filemenu, selectInfo. AnInfowindow will appear.
- In the "Permissions:" section, there will be a table with
Owner,Group, andOtherlisted on the left, andRead,Write, andExecuteacross the top.
- To set permissions for a directory, for
Owner, markRead,Write, andExecute. For bothGroupandOther, markReadandExecute. - To set permissions for a file, for
Owner, markRead,Write, andExecute. ForGroupandOther, mark onlyRead. - Unless you want other people to have the ability to modify and
even delete your files or directories, make sure that the
Writebox is not selected forGrouporOther.
If you have selected a directory, you may apply your permission settings to all files and subdirectories within it by clicking the checkbox next toApply changes recursively.
