In Internet Explorer 6.0, how can I change the way images and sounds on web pages are handled?
Note: The information below does not apply to Internet Explorer 7.
Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows includes features for handling images and sounds. For example, you may notice that images are automatically sized to fit the browser window, and when your mouse pointer is hovering over an image on web pages, a toolbar appears to assist with downloading or saving the image.
These settings are stored in the Advanced Multimedia Internet Options. To access these options, do the following:
- In Internet Explorer, from the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....
- Click the
Advancedtab.
- Scroll down to the "Multimedia" section.
You will see the following options:
-
Enable Automatic Image Resizing: When enabled,
this will change the size of images on web pages to fit the web
browser screen. In some cases you may not want this automatic
resizing to happen, for example, if you have a large image that gets
distorted when it is sized too small.
-
Enable Image ToolBar (requires restart): When
this is enabled, a toolbar appears to assist with downloading or
saving an image when your mouse pointer is hovering over the
image.
-
Play animations in web pages: You may want this
disabled if you are using a slow network connection.
-
Play sounds in web pages: You may want this
disabled if you are using a slow network connection.
-
Play videos in web pages: You may want this
disabled if you are using a slow network connection.
-
Show image download placeholders: This option
will make the browser show a placeholder until an image is
downloaded.
-
Show pictures: You may want this disabled if you
are using a slow network connection.
- Smart image dithering: This option affects the way images are displayed. It is checked by default, and usually there's no reason to change this.
