In the Oncourse Original Test and Survey tool, what question types are available for surveys?

Note: The Original Test and Survey tool is slated to be completely replaced by Tests & Surveys as of fall 2012; see About the retirement of Original Test and Survey.

In the Original Test and Survey tool, you can select from six question types to automatically collect data from your surveys, as follows:

  • Text box: Presents users with a labeled single-line text box for entry of text, such as a name or phone number

  • Text area: Presents users with a labeled multiple-line text area for entry of long text items, such as addresses or extended responses

  • Checkbox: Presents users with a checkbox and descriptive text; you can use checkboxes to get yes-or-no responses from users

  • Multiple selection: Presents users with a list of items, each of which has a checkbox; users can select all applicable items from the list by checking the appropriate boxes

  • Single selection: A list of items, each of which has a radio button; users can select only one of the listed items by clicking its radio button

  • Rating: Presents users with a question followed by a list of items that represent the scale of possible responses; rating items differ from single selection items in that options listed are part of a scale (e.g., 1-5, best-worst)
