ARCHIVED: With a BlackBerry, how do I change my signature?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

You can change the signature displayed when you send mail from your BlackBerry handheld. This signature is independent of any signatures you have created through Outlook or any other email client.

You can customize the signature added to email sent with your BlackBerry either by using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager or directly from the BlackBerry itself.

To change or delete your auto signature from your handheld:

  1. From the Messages screen, click Menu, and then scroll down and choose Options.
  2. Select Email Settings, and click the trackball.
  3. Move the cursor to the Use Auto Signature field, and select Yes. In the text box that appears, enter a new auto signature.

Note: The handheld is not configured to use auto signature by default. Because there is some latency between when you make changes and when they take effect on the server, you may want to send yourself test messages to verify your signature changes are working properly.

  4. After you've made your changes, click Menu and choose Save.

To change your auto signature or delete it from your desktop:

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and click Email Settings.
  2. In the Email Settings screen, select General on the left-hand side.
  3. In the text box under "Signature", edit the signature attached to your outgoing email messages. To disable your signature, delete all the text.
  4. Click Apply to save the changes made to your signature.

Note: Your signature does not appear while you are composing an email message on your handheld. Instead, it is appended to each email message you send. The auto signature is not appended to PIN or SMS messages.
