At IUB and IUPUI, what special telephone features are available for departments?

Some phone features allow departments to meet special needs, such as allowing one phone number to route calls to multiple phones. (For features on individual faculty or staff telephone lines by campus, see IUB or IUPUI).

Hunt groups

Hunt groups are similar to Call Forward Busy for more than five stations in a series. A hunt group is a group of numbers with a pilot number, which is also a member of the hunt group. When the pilot is dialed, the call hunts in sequence (if the lines are busy) until it finds a vacant line.

Special application features

Feature Description
Customer Interaction Center Customer Interaction Center (CIC) allows a large number of incoming calls to be answered by a group of individuals who serve as agents. Calls are automatically distributed to the agents on a most-idle basis.
Uniform Call Distribution This feature allows you to be a member of a Uniform Call Distribution (UCD) group. The UCD group has one published telephone number, which is called the UCD pilot. As calls are made to the pilot number, they are uniformly distributed to the UCD members who are logged in. Each member logs in or out of the UCD pilot to accept or deny calls. Callers wait in a calling queue for the next available agent. Statistical reports are available.
Music in Queue Callers hear music while waiting in the calling queue in a CIC or UCD application.
Dedicated Data Circuits Occasionally, departments need dedicated point-to-point data circuits. These circuits are used for direct data transmission. If your department needs a 2-wire circuit, 4-wire circuit, or fiber-optic circuit, email Telecom Consulting to schedule the installation. The circuit may have both termination points on campus or one termination point on campus and the other at a remote location. If your circuit has one termination point on campus and the other at a remote location, and you have placed an order with an outside vendor, you will need to order the "tail circuit" (the part of the circuit on campus) from UITS by emailing Telecom Consulting.

Provide the following information when requesting dedicated data circuits:

  • Department name
  • Account number(s) for monthly and one-time charges
  • Contact name and telephone number
  • Type of service (fiber-optic, 2-wire, or 4-wire)
  • Location for termination points (i.e., building names or street addresses, room numbers, and jack identifiers)
ISDN Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is available at all IUB campus locations. For information on ISDN services at IUB, call 812-856-2287. At IUPUI, call 317-274-9900.
