ARCHIVED: At IUB or IUPUI, how do I transfer a call or establish a three-way call?

Note:
The following applies only to traditional phones. If your traditional phone has been replaced by the UniCom service (using Skype for Business and/or a USB or IP phone), see ARCHIVED: UniCom (unified communications).

At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, you can transfer a call or add a third party to an existing call without operator assistance. The process is the same for both:

  1. Ask the original person to hold, and then press the Flash button (Cortelco 2203 phones; may be indicated by a lightning bolt), the Link button (Caller ID phones), or the 3 Way Call button (Nortel 1120E or 1140E IP phones).
  2. Listen for a "stutter" dial tone and dial the number of the third person.
  3. Announce the call privately to the third person.
  4. Press the Flash, Link, or 3 Way Call button to connect all three parties. You may now hang up if you are transferring the call, or remain on the line for a three-way call.

If the number of the third party is busy or unanswered, or you make an error in dialing, you can recall the original person by pressing the Flash, Link, or 3 Way Call button twice.
