At IU, what is the difference between Webserve and Mercury?

Webserve hosts departmental, faculty, course, and official student organization pages at Indiana University; see At IU, who can have an account on Webserve, and how do I get one? Webserve hosts accounts on:

Mercury hosts personal web sites for faculty, staff, and students at mypage.iu.edu; see At IU, what is Mypage, and how can I publish a web page there? Some student organizations and faculty members may also choose to publish their web pages on Mercury, as it is easy to create an account using an existing IU Network ID.

Note: At Indiana University South Bend, the Mypage service is different from the Mypage service mentioned in this document. For more information, see IUSB's Web Publishing: Mypage.
