At IU, what are the requirements for my Webserve account's username?
Account usernames on Webserve, Indiana University's central web server, must meet the following requirements:
- Account usernames must be three to eight characters in length, and
all characters must be lowercase.
- Usernames must contain only the characters a-z and 0-9. The first
character cannot be a number.
- The account name should reflect the purpose of the account.
For security reasons, UITS cannot create web account names
on the central server that are the same as your personal Network
ID or your last name. UITS recommends creating account names
that are not year-specific (e.g., spring2009) because you
may want to use the account in the future.
