When I try to look at my web page, what does it mean when I receive a "500" or "Internal Server" error?

In most cases, when you try to look at a web page, a "500" or "Internal Server" error is not the result of problems with the web server itself, but is usually caused by a problem with the code or program you are calling.

You can assist visitors to your site by providing customized error messages for your pages, giving contact information and possibly even redirecting visitors to another location within your site in the event of such errors. For help, see How do I create customized error messages for my web page?
