In IUB campus housing, using Windows, how do I connect to my RTC's network printer?

Note: At Indiana University Bloomington, printing to a Residential Technology Center (RTC) printer counts against your Student Technology Center (STC) printing allotment. However, IUB campus housing residents receive an extra 100-page allotment per semester. This additional allotment is usually added mid-semester. For more, see About STC printing allotments at IUB.

UITS provides a printer utility for Windows 7, Vista, and XP to automatically install IUB STC and RTC printers; see How do I obtain and use the IU printer finder utility?

Alternatively, to manually configure your Windows 7, Vista, or XP computer to connect to your RTC printer:

  1. From the Start menu, click Devices and Printers or Settings, and then Printers and Faxes.

Note: If this doesn't match what you see, refer to About navigation settings in Windows.

  2. Click Add a printer. In the Add Printer Wizard that opens, click Next.

  3. Select A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer, and then click Next.

  4. Select Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer, select this option and click Next):. In all versions, enter the path to the RTC printer, as specified in At IUB, what are the STC and RTC network printer paths and models?

  5. If you have your own printer or already have a printer configured, you will be prompted to select this newly added printer as the default printer, meaning all print jobs will automatically be sent to it. If you only use the RTC network printer occasionally, select No; if it will be your primary printer, select Yes. Click Next, and then Finish.

You're now ready to print to the RTC network printer. Before you send a document to the printer, send a one-page test document (e.g., your name typed several times).
