Using Outlook 2003 over a VPN connection, why can't I log in?
After your first successful connection to your Exchange mailbox using
Outlook 2003 over a VPN connection, you may have
trouble logging in. If the "User name:" field displays
"iu-mssg-mbxNN\username" (where "NN" is a number and "username" is
your username), change it to ads\username (where
username is your username).
If you are using Windows XP, you can also trying installing the Indiana University Windows Authentication Update, which will disable insecure LanManager and NTLMv1 authentication protocols. For more, see LM, NTLM, and NTLMv2 on the IU network.
