In Microsoft Word for Mac OS X, how do I manage page numbering with a cover page?

Microsoft Word relies on sections for its use of page numbering. If you want page numbering to begin after the title page:

  1. Place the cursor at the bottom of the cover page, and from the Insert menu, select Break, and then Section Break (Next Page).

  2. Place your cursor on the first page of your document (not the cover page). From the Insert menu, choose Page Numbers... .

  3. In the dialog box that appears, make sure that the box next to Show Number on First Page is not checked. Then click OK.

  4. With the cursor on the second page of your document, from the Insert menu, choose Page Numbers... .

  5. In the dialog box that appears, in the "Alignment" and "Position" sections, choose the location where the page number will appear on the document. Make sure that the box next to Show Number on First Page is checked.

  6. Click the Format... button.

  7. In the dialog box that appears, go to the "Page Numbering" section, click Start at: , and type  1  (the number 1) in the field. Click OK twice. Your document is ready to print.
