At IU, in which STCs can I use GIS software?
For a complete schedule of the availability of IUB STCs for summer 2008, see At IUB, what is the STC summer upgrade schedule for 2008?
Geographic information system (GIS) software is available on several of the Indiana University campuses in the Student Technology Centers (STCs). However, not all GIS software is available in all student labs. See the appropriate section below for your campus:
IU Bloomington
The following GIS and remote sensing software will be available in all Student Technology Centers on the IU Bloomington campus for fall 2007:
- ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 including ArcGlobe, ArcScene and ArcReader
- ArcInfo Workstation 9.2
- ArcHydro Tool for ArcGIS Desktop 9.2
- ArcGIS Explorer 9.2
- ArcObjects Tutorial Data
- ESRI Data and Maps
- ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 Tutorial Data
- ERDAS IMAGINE 9.1 with Subpixel Classifier
- Google Earth
- Google SketchUp
- ISDP Download Tool

ArcView GIS 3.3 will no longer be available in IUB student labs. The driver for this application is no longer compatible with the newer video cards in the STCs. While UITS will continue to support ArcView GIS 3.3, you are encouraged to upgrade to ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 in order to take advantage of key enhancements and new functionality. ESRI recommends Avenue Wraps to help programmers migrate existing Avenue-based applications to the new ArcGIS environment.
