In Outlook, how do I use a separate email profile for my BlackBerry?
If you are getting synchronization errors when cradle synchronizing your BlackBerry, you may find that creating a separate Outlook profile for use with your BlackBerry solves the problem.
Create the new Outlook profile
- Take your BlackBerry out of the cradle.
- From the
Startmenu, selectControl Panel(orSettingsand thenControl Panel).
- Double-click the
Mailicon. ClickShow Profiles, and then clickAdd....
- In the
New Profiledialog box, in the "Profile Name" field, typeblackberryand clickOK.
- Select
Add a new email account, and clickNext. Then selectMicrosoft Exchange Server, and clickNext.
- In the "Microsoft Exchange Server" field, type
ads.iu.edu. UncheckUse Cached Exchange Mode.
- In the "User Name" field, type your username and click
Check Nameto verify the account name.
- Click
More Settings..., and choose theSecuritytab.
- In the "Logon network security" field, choose
Kerberos/NTLM Password Authentication(in Outlook 2003) orPassword Authentication (NTLM)(earlier versions of Outlook). You may checkAlways prompt for user name and passwordif you wish to be prompted for credentials every time Desktop Manager launches.
- Click
OK, thenNext, thenFinish, and finallyOKagain.
Configure BlackBerry Desktop Manager to use the profile
Now that you have added the "blackberry" profile, you will need to configure BlackBerry Desktop Manager to use it:
- Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click
Redirector Settings, and click theAdvancedtab.
- Click
Profile Settings.... Next to "Always use this profile:", select theblackberryprofile you created. ClickOK.
- A warning that you must restart Desktop Manager for changes to
take effect will appear. Click
OK, and then close and restart Desktop Manager.
- Double-click
Intellisync, and clickConfigure PIM.... Verify that the Calendar is set toBlackBerry Wireless Sync. If it isn't, see With a BlackBerry, how do I reconcile my email, calendar, and other data?
- For each component (Addressbook, MemoPad, Tasks), click
Choose.... This opens theChoose Translatordialog box.
- Under "Available Translators", make sure
Microsoft Outlookis selected. Then clickOptions..., and verify thatblackberryis selected as the user profile. If not, select it. ClickOK.
- In the
Choose Translatordialog box, clickBrowse...and verify that the appropriate mailbox folder is selected:
- For the BlackBerry Addressbook, select the Outlook
Contactsfolder. - For the BlackBerry MemoPad, select the Outlook
Notesfolder. - For BlackBerry Tasks, select the Outlook
Tasksfolder.
You may receive one or more warnings during these steps because you are telling the device to synchronize with a different data source, but there should be no negative impact.
If you cannot navigate the folder list in the upper window, highlight the folder in the lower "Selected Folder(s):" area and click
Remove. This should refresh the upper window, and you should be able to navigate to the proper folder. - For the BlackBerry Addressbook, select the Outlook
- Cradle your device, and initiate a synchronization. Verify that the data
have synched and that you don't log any new warnings. To check your sync log,
in the Intellisync application, click
View log.
