Installing the IMAGINE 9.2 application

  1. Uninstall any IMAGINE service pack or fix, and then uninstall any other previous version of IMAGINE, before installing IMAGINE 9.2; see ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I uninstall programs?
  2. Download ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2 from IUware Online.

Note: Permission to access this software is given upon purchase of an ERDAS license through UITS; see ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I purchase ERDAS IMAGINE?

  3. Extract the software files to your hard drive.
  4. When the ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2 window appears, follow the instructions in the InstallShield Wizard. Click Yes to the license agreement, and then continue to use the default settings for installation.
  5. If you had a previous version of IMAGINE installed, you may see a message about copying an IMAGINE file to a new home directory. Follow the instructions, and then click OK.
  6. When installation is complete, leave the option for Launch License Manager unchecked. Click Finish. Continue with the appropriate set of instructions below.

Setting up a license for ERDAS Central License Service (Indiana University network)

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\IUware Online\ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2\LICENSING. For Windows Vista, double-click LGGI_VistaLicenseServer.exe. For Windows 2000 and XP, double-click LGGI_LicenseServer.exe.

  4. In the License Manager window, click Add, and then select License server information.
  5. Next to "Server Name:", type erdas1 (the final character is the number 1). Click OK. If your computer does not recognize the server as valid, type erdas1.uits.indiana.edu. If this doesn't work, see ARCHIVED: At IU, using ERDAS IMAGINE, how do I correct the error "Cannot find valid license information"?
  6. To ensure license service backup, also add the server name erdas2, or use the full server name erdas2.uits.indiana.edu.

Note: You must enter each server name individually.

  7. Confirm that you see a list of modules for each server. Close the License Manager window.
  8. To confirm a successful installation, start ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2 by opening the Start menu, then All Programs, Leica Geosystems, and then ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2.

Setting up a local license for laptop or home computer

Note: You have two options for installing the ERDAS IMAGINE license manager. One manager is compatible with Windows 2000 and XP. The other manager is compatible with Windows Vista.

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\IUware Online\ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2\LICENSING. For Windows Vista, double-click LGGI_VistaLicenseServer.exe. For Windows 2000 and XP, double-click LGGI_LicenseServer.exe.

  3. Open the License Manager from the Start menu by selecting All Programs, Leica Geosystems, Licensing Tools, and then License Management.
  4. In the License Manager window, select the System ID Source you plan to use (i.e., Local Area Connection, Hard Disk, CPU ID or Hardware Key). If you are unsure, choose Hard Disk.

If you had a previous installation of ERDAS IMAGINE, you should already see the license file information loaded. Confirm that the license server is running. Click OK to close all windows. Skip to the final step.

  5. Copy the System ID code and send it to the GIS Support Specialists. If you have purchased an ERDAS license from UITS, a GIS Support Specialist will send you an electronic license file.
  6. Open the License Manager (see step 3) if it is not already open. Click Add.
  7. Select License Server Information, and then click Manage local license server.
  8. Select the System ID Source you chose earlier.
  9. Click Load. Navigate to the .lgs electronic license file, select it, and then click Open.

Note: You can tell if this is a current license file by the date in the INCREMENT text. If the date is not in the past, this license will work.

  10. If you are using Windows Vista, uncheck Create Windows NT/2000/XP Service. Click OK.
  11. Click Yes when prompted to start the license server. You should see your computer's hostname in the "Server Name" text box.
  12. Click OK until you exit the License Manager setup.
  13. To confirm a successful installation, start the ERDAS IMAGINE application.
