In Windows NT 4.0, 2000, or XP, how do I disable or enable the autoplay function of my CD-ROM?
The autoplay function of Windows allows the operating system to detect when a CD is inserted, and then automatically to run a program or begin playing music. If you are having trouble burning CDs or reading the information on a multi-session CD, you may need to disable the autoplay function. To do so, follow the appropriate steps:
Windows XP
- From the
Startmenu, selectRun.... In the "Open:" field, typeexplorer, then press theEnterkey.
- In the left panel, select
My Computer. In the right panel, right-click the icon for your CD drive and selectProperties.
- From the
Autoplaytab, select an item from the drop-down menu. By default,Music filesis selected. ClickSelect an action to perform, and choose an action. Repeat this for each type of content. To disable the autoplay function, for all types, chooseTake no action.
- When you have finished choosing an action for each type of
content, click
OK.
