During move-in week

Residence halls and the Information Commons

If you are having difficulty connecting to IU Secure, configuring antivirus software, updating service packs, or if you have other questions about technology at IU, TCC consultants will be available at Laptop ER stations in residence halls and the Information Commons. Laptop ER stations will be open noon to 6pm on Monday, August 13 through Saturday, August 18, and are available at the following locations:

  • Briscoe: Near Shoemaker (southern wing)
  • Eigenmann: Southernmost wing, in the back of the computer lab
  • Forest: B building, in the back of the lounge
  • Foster: Harper, down the hall from the center desk
  • Herman B Wells Information Commons: In the West Tower, between the library instructional clusters
  • McNutt: Center building, downstairs, in front of the computer lab
  • Read: Landes Lounge (southwestern wing), in the basement near the computer lab
  • Teter: Rabb (center building), towards the back in the Game Area
  • Willkie: North building, towards the right near the computer stations
  • Wright: Campbell, across from the center desk in Wright library

When you visit the Laptop ER stations, TCC recommends that you bring your computer's original driver disks and power cable. Fill out a ticket (available at the residence hall center desk or ER station). You must stay with your laptop during the entire repair process.

If you do not need immediate assistance, you can also request that a TCC consultant visit your room between noon and 6pm on Monday, August 13 through Saturday, August 18. To do so, visit an ER station and schedule an appointment that fits your schedule. TCC recommends filling at least two timeslots in case the station has increased traffic.

Personal WAPs

The IU Secure wireless network is available in all IU Bloomington and IUPUI dormitory residence halls, as well as Campus View, Hillcrest Apartments, Tulip Tree, 3rd & Union Apartments, and Union Street Center. If IU Secure is not yet available in your campus residence, you may operate a properly configured, FCC-approved wireless access point (WAP) as an exception to the IT-19 Extending the University Data Network and IT-20 Wireless Networking policies from the University Information Policy Office (UIPO). Once IU Secure is available in your residence, this exception will no longer apply and you will need to remove your WAP from the network. For details, see At IUB, if my campus residence does not yet have IU Secure wireless network access, how do I configure a wireless access point?
