ARCHIVED: If I used Pine on the Shakespeare or Jewel systems, what do I need to know about the recent email upgrade?
This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
The Shakespeare and Jewel systems used Pine to connect to the IMAP servers where your Indiana University email was stored. During April and May 2005, UITS moved all Shakespeare and Jewel system mailboxes to a new and more robust system, Cyrus mail, and retired the Shakespeare and Jewel servers that provided the Pine client. You can no longer access your mail via Pine on the Shakespeare or Jewel systems.
On the new system, you have several options for accessing your IU email:
- IU Webmail: IU Webmail is a web-based interface to your mail. For more information, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: What is IU Webmail?
- Desktop clients: Desktop email clients include Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Eudora. For more information, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: Reading your Cyrus mail using a desktop client.
- Exchange (faculty and staff only): Faculty, staff, and graduate students who have a faculty or staff sponsor may use the Exchange email system. For more information, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: Exchange accounts at IU
- Pine as a desktop client: You may also configure Pine as a desktop client. For instructions, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: At IU, how can I set up PC-Pine for Windows to read my IMAP email?
