At IU, what is the UITS Student Technology Centers group?

The Student Technology Centers group offers a comprehensive suite of software in computing facilities designed to meet the instructional needs of students and faculty at IU Bloomington and IUPUI. The Student Technology Centers provide an array of current and essential technology tools, such as high-speed Internet access, scanning, removable storage, audio/video and multimedia processing, and high capacity black and white and color printing. The software build is extended to general purpose classrooms in collaboration with Classroom Technology Services and other IU units, utilizing departmentally owned and operated computing facilities to yield a common look and feel in the instructional environment. Partnerships are further enhanced with deployment of departmentally sponsored, discipline-specific software to many of the more than 3,500 workstations across the two campuses.

Staff directly administer the Bloomington computing facilities, while at IUPUI, UITS owns two sites and wholly manages a third one. For these three sites, UITS provides hardware, software, and consulting support. For six other departmental centers open to all students, UITS provides staffing and software support as needed; these are otherwise administered by the local department. Technology Center Consulting (STCON) provides consulting support, and the Student Technology Centers group provides software and hardware support.
