How can I run X Window System applications on Unix systems from a Microsoft Windows workstation?
To run X Window System applications on a remote Unix computer and have the graphics displayed on your Microsoft Windows workstation, you must run an X Window server on your workstation. UITS provides XLiveCD, a CD-ROM that lets you run an X server and forward graphics to your workstation without installing software. XLiveCD runs on Windows XP, NT, 9x. It does not run on Windows Vista.
To get XLiveCD, click here to download the ISO-9660 CD image.
XLiveCD should perform acceptably for occasional use. If you need an X server regularly, you should install an X server on your workstation. Hummingbird's X Window System client, eXceed, is available for download from IUware Online; see At IU, how can I get a copy of eXceed?
