After uninstalling Get Connected, why does my computer still prompt me to change my password, and how can I make it stop?
To protect your computer and the Indiana University network, Get Connected changes your computer's security policy so it prompts you periodically to change your password. When your computer is no longer connected to the IU network, you may choose to uninstall Get Connected. However, doing so does not remove the IU password policy, and your computer will continue to periodically prompt you to change your password.
To reset your computer's password policy to its default settings, you can use Get Unconnected; see What is Get Unconnected, and what does it do?
You can also use Support Systems, Licensing, and Software Distribution's UITS Password Policy Reset Wizard. To access and run the wizard:
- Log into your computer as an administrator; see On a computer, what are administrators and administrative rights?
or At IUB, if I forget the administrator password for my Windows computer, what can I do?
- Download the Password Policy Updater from IUware.
- If you're not logged in already, next to "Available For Download",
click
Login. Then supply your Network ID, and clicklogin. When you're logged in, next to "Available For Download", click
Download. - When your browser asks what to do with the file, choose the
option to save the application to your hard drive.
- Once the download is complete, find the application
(
pwdpolicyreset) and double-click its name to start the InstallShield Wizard.Note: If you see the error message "Administrative Rights Required", this means you are not logged into your computer as an administrator. To run the utility on your computer, you must be logged in as an administrator.
- On the welcome screen, click
Nextto begin the utility. When it's finished, you'll see "Password Security Policies Updated". ClickFinishto close the utility.
