How do I use ArcGIS to connect to the Indiana Spatial Data Service?
One of the most useful aspects of the Indiana Spatial Data Service (ISDS) is the ability to load its Internet map services directly as data layers into ESRI's desktop GIS software, including ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Explorer. Follow the instructions below to create a connection by GIS Server to the ISDS map services:
Connect using ArcMap
- Open ArcMap, and click
Add Data.
- In the
Add Datadialog box, from the "Look In" drop-down menu, chooseGIS Servers.
- Double-click
Add ArcIMS Server.
- Enter the URL for the server: http://gis.iu.edu:8502
- Choose the
All servicesoption, and then clickOK.
- In the
Add Datadialog box, double-click thegis.iu.edu_8502connection to view available map services.
- Select one or more map services, and then click
Addto load the map services into ArcMap.
Connect using ArcCatalog
- Open ArcCatalog. In the Catalog tree, expand the
GIS Serversfolder.
- Double-click
Add ArcIMS Server.
- Enter the URL for the server: http://gis.iu.edu:8502
- Choose the
All servicesoption, and then clickOK.
- In the Catalog Tree, expand the
gis.iu.edu_8502connection to view available map services.
- Select one map service, and then select the
Previewtab to view the map service in ArcCatalog.
