Where can I find information about library services for distance education or online learning?

The Indiana University Bloomington Libraries Distributed (Distance) Education Services are available to students enrolled in IUB courses living outside the Bloomington area, including PhD candidates enrolled for dissertation credit but not residing in Bloomington. For more about these services, see Libraries Distance Education.

Note: IUB Libraries Distributed Education Services are not available to students on the Bloomington campus or to individuals not affiliated with IUB.

If you are a distance education or online learning student, contact the IUB Libraries staff with your reference and research questions by email at  libdist@indiana.edu , via the online chat service Ask a Librarian, or by telephone at 888-258-6977. This phone number is toll-free from the US, Canada, or the Caribbean.

If you live in or are visiting Bloomington, visit the Herman B Wells Library Reference department and ask for help specific to distance learning.

The following may prove helpful with your research:

  • The "Getting Started" section of the Distance Education page provides information about getting IU computing accounts, including a Network ID, and a library bar code for borrowing books. You'll also find forms for getting books and articles from the IUB Libraries delivered to your home, and links to various tutorials that remote researchers or learners have found useful.

  • Class web pages lists online home pages for many classes.

  • Find information about your course reserves and E-Reserves on the Class Reserves page.
