In Stata, how do I import observations spanning multiple lines?
The Stata .infix command allows you to specify line
numbers followed by a colon ( : ). Suppose each
observation has three data lines, as follows:
client.dct contains:
______________________________________
infix dictionary using client.txt {
3 lines
1: byte id 1-10
2: str name 1-30
3: str state 1-2
float zipcode 4-8
}
______________________________________
Stata reads id from columns 1 through 10 in the first
line, name in the second line, and state and
zipcode in the third line.
