Text of the welcome message from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) Redirector is a billed service offered by UITS to Indiana University faculty, staff, and participants in the Kelley pilot program. With a BES data plan you purchase from your cellular provider, the IU BES Redirector service enables full access to your IU Exchange email account (including mail, calendar, tasks, etc.) from your BlackBerry device. For more, see Getting started with a BlackBerry at IU.

When you create a new account on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), you will receive the following message:

Welcome to the UITS BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1. Your account has been created.

Depending on the version of device software you are running on your BlackBerry, you may be able to use Wireless Enterprise Activation to more quickly get up and running.

To find the version of device software you are running, on your BlackBerry, go to "Options" and then choose "About" from the options menu.

***OPTION A:

If your BlackBerry device is running BlackBerry Handheld software version 4.0 or later, see:

At IU, how do I activate a BlackBerry on the BES?
http://kb.iu.edu/data/aqem.html

Your email address: user's email
Your Enterprise Activation password: user's password

***OPTION B:

If your BlackBerry Handheld software is version 3.8 or earlier, you will need to connect your BlackBerry via the USB cable or cradle to your computer. Follow these steps:

  1. Install the latest version of the BlackBerry Desktop software on your Windows computer. See For a BlackBerry at IU, what software do I need and where do I get it? http://kb.iu.edu/data/aswr.html

  2. Create a separate Outlook profile for your BlackBerry. See In Outlook, how do I use a separate email profile for my BlackBerry? http://kb.iu.edu/data/anis.html

  3. Launch the BlackBerry Desktop software and configure your synchronization options. See With a BlackBerry, how do I reconcile my email, calendar, and other data? http://kb.iu.edu/data/alov.html

***ALL USERS:

Once you have successfully performed your wireless activation or initial wired synchronization, you should be able to send and receive email from your device. If not, see What should I do if my BlackBerry cannot send or receive email? http://kb.iu.edu/data/aona.html
