ARCHIVED: With a BlackBerry, how do I create a distribution list?
Groups you create in your BlackBerry Contacts function as distribution lists to simplify the task of mailing a single message to multiple recipients.
Note: With the implementation of BES 5.0, group mailing lists created on the BlackBerry handheld cannot be used from the Outlook desktop. However, personal distribution lists created in Outlook Contacts can be used on the BlackBerry device.
Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) service will be retired by January 1, 2015; see ARCHIVED: About the retired BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server). As of January 1, 2013, no new BES accounts are being created. UITS recommends you replace your BlackBerry with a device that is compatible with ActiveSync.
To create a group mailing list on your BlackBerry:
- With your BlackBerry, open your Contacts, and click the Menu key to open the menu. Select , and type a name in the field provided.
- Click the Menu key, and choose
Note: Contacts' email addresses must be in your contacts before you can add them to a group.

name from the list of members in your contacts.
- Select the user and click the trackball to add the member to the group. You may be prompted to choose from multiple email addresses if more than one is listed for the chosen contact.
- To add more users, click the Menu key, select , and repeat the steps above.
- After you have added all contacts to the group, click the Menu key, and select .
To modify an existing group, choose the group from your contacts. Once the list has appeared, you can add or remove group members or change the name of the group; click the Menu key to view your options.
Note: Distribution groups created in Outlook cannot be edited on the handheld; they can only be edited in Outlook. Likewise, distribution groups created on the handheld can only be edited on the handheld.
