At IU, how do I request accounts for conference participants?
Visitors to Indiana University who are otherwise unaffiliated with IU may on occasion be granted temporary accounts that permit them to access the IU network. Two kinds of accounts are available for this purpose:
- The Network Access account is intended for use by visitors to IU
Bloomington or IUPUI who need nothing more than Internet access
through the IU wireless network. This account is available at no
charge. See At IUB and IUPUI, what is a Network Access account, and how do I get one?
- Conference accounts are intended for use by participants of
IU-sponsored conferences, workshops, or special programs who need
access to secure IU-owned computing resources, such as the wired IU
network, the Student Technology Centers (STCs), or network
printing services.
Note: At IU Bloomington only, a conference technology fee of $5 per week is assessed per participant for these accounts; see Conference use of the Student Technology Centers. The conference technology fee may be waived if no UITS-owned resources will be used by the conference making the request.
Conference accounts must be sponsored by a faculty or staff member, and must be approved by the Information Technology Policy Office (ITPO). To sponsor conference accounts:
- Go to the Account Management Service at: https://itaccounts.iu.edu/
- Click
Manage my IU computing accounts.
- You might see a page asking you to log into the Central
Authentication Service; if so, enter your Network ID username
and passphrase. If not, skip to the next step.
- Click
set up conference accounts.
- Enter the requested information about the conference and the
resources your conference guests will need. Click
Continue.
Once the IU Information Technology Policy Office has approved your
request, you will receive notification of the account usernames and
passphrases available to your conference attendees. If you experience
any problems requesting accounts, contact
valid@indiana.edu .
Note: Sponsors must keep records of all conference account users. In the case of a security or policy violation, the sponsor must be able to supply identity and contact information for the user of the offending account at the time of the incident, and must assist in problem resolution.
