In Mozilla Thunderbird, can I change how frequently the application checks for new mail?

In Mozilla Thunderbird you can determine how often you want the application to automatically check for new mail. Keep in mind that checking for new mail every five minutes is a reasonable minimum; checking it more often may overload the server. Follow the instructions below to set or change the interval:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings... .

  2. In the panel on the left, click Server Settings.

  3. Make sure that the box before the line beginning Check for new messages every is checked. In the box before the word minutes, enter the interval in minutes that you want the application to check for new mail.

  4. Click OK to apply the settings.
