IU Secure wireless connections: Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile 5 or 6

Note: To gain full Internet access for your device on the IU Secure network, you must register the device's MAC address. Before registering your MAC address, your device will be able to connect to IU Secure, but will not receive an IP address that allows a successful Internet connection. For more, see At IUB, IUPUI, and IUN, how do I register my computer or other networked device?

After registering the MAC address, you need to configure your hardware to accept the signal from the IU Secure wireless access points in order to access local network resources or the Internet.

Be sure you are in a location receiving a wireless signal when following these instructions. While it won't damage anything to follow these steps in an uncovered area, you won't get feedback from the PDA indicating it's configured correctly, so you increase the possibility of making a mistake.

To configure your device to connect to IU Secure, follow the appropriate instructions below:

Windows Phone 7

From the Main Screen:

  1. Swipe to the left (or tap the arrow on the right).

  2. Scroll down and tap Settings.

  3. Scroll down and tap Wi-Fi.

  4. To the right of the "Wi-Fi networking" section, tap and slide the bar to the right. It will turn green when the setting is turned on.

  5. Check Notify me when new networks are found.

  6. Tap IU Secure and type your username and passphrase in the boxes indicated.

  7. Tap the check at the bottom to save the information and finish.

Windows Mobile 5 or 6

  1. Turn on your device. From the Start menu (the Windows flag icon in the upper left corner), select Settings.

  2. Under "Connections", tap the icon for your device's Wi-Fi connection, and then click Wi-Fi to turn it on. You will know the device is detecting a network when, on the toolbar near the speaker icon and the clock, an antenna with a pair of arrows pointing left and right appear. If your device does not see a wireless signal, the arrows will appear with an "X". In an uncovered area, you will see the "X" even if you do this step properly.

  3. Under "Configure Wireless Networks", you may find "IU Secure" listed; if so, verify the settings listed in the steps below, and then tap Connect. Proceed with entering your username, password, and domain (step 4).

If IU Secure it is not listed as an available wireless network:

    1. Tap Add New... .
    2. In the "Network Name" field, type whatever you'd like.
    3. In the "Connects to" field, leave the default setting, "The Internet". Leave the two checkboxes below deselected. Tap Next.
    4. In the "Authentication" box, tap the drop-down arrow and select WPA2. In the "Data Encryption" box, tap the drop-down arrow and select AES, and then tap Next.
    5. Make sure Use IEEE 802.1x network access control is checked. The EAP type should be PEAP. Tap Finish.

  4. When you are prompted for your ADS username and password, enter your IU credentials. In the "Domain" field, enter ADS . Check Save Password if desired. Tap OK.

If everything is configured properly, you should see a balloon appear while the PDA is connecting. When the balloon disappears, and if you do not immediately see an error message, you should be connected. You can verify connectivity by tapping the wireless icon again; it should open a dialog balloon giving your signal strength and the length of time you've been connected, as well as a Disconnect and a Hide button. If you see that information, you are properly connected.

This is document atcn in domain all.
