ARCHIVED: Which audio formats can Audacity import?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Audacity can import only standard PCM or compression formats (e.g., .wav, .aiff, .mp3), not proprietary formats like Microsoft's Windows Media format (.wma). Audacity also does not support Ogg Vorbis, Speex, or FLAC formats.

If you need to import a file of these types into Audacity, you will first need to export it in one of the standard formats.
