ARCHIVED: At IU, how can I read Usenet newsgroups?
In August 2006, UITS retired the Indiana University Usenet servers
(news.indiana.edu, news.iu.edu, and
usenet.ucs.indiana.edu). As a result, you can no longer
access Usenet newsgroups from these servers. Also, local (IU)
newsgroups are no longer available.
To read Usenet newsgroups, UITS recommends using Google Groups at:
http://groups.google.com/Google Groups offers an up-to-date, web-based archive of Usenet postings. To post messages and respond to other posts, you'll need to create a Google Groups account. For more information, see the "Google Groups: What's New" page at:
http://groups.google.com/intl/en/googlegroups/tour/index.htmlIndiana University no longer provides a Usenet server for accessing newsgroups. If you are an IU faculty or staff member, you can request a shared mailbox on the Cyrus mail system as an alternative to using a local (IU) newsgroup. If you are an IU student, you can request a shared mailbox if you have faculty or staff sponsorship. See How do I request a shared mailbox on Cyrus?
