ARCHIVED: In Photoshop, why am I having trouble printing a PSD file?

While working in Photoshop, you may send a Photoshop PSD file (.psd) to a printer, yet it doesn't print and disappears from the print queue. Usually this means your file is too large, even though it is not in RAW format (which is usually quite large).

Try flattening the image, reducing the resolution, and printing again:

  1. To flatten the image, from the Layer menu, select Flatten Image.
  2. To reduce the resolution, select Image, and then Image Size. In the box next to "Resolution:", reduce by the desired amount. Check Resample Image, and then click OK.

Note: For high-quality output in the Indiana University STCs, a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi) is sufficient.

To further reduce the file size and facilitate printing, save the image file in PNG, TIFF, JPEG, or PDF format.
