Internet access at University Place at IUPUI
Note: In the University Place Conference Center (UPCC), port 25 is blocked for guest accounts.
Wireless access
Wireless Internet access at University Place at IUPUI is available free of charge throughout the conference center and the hotel. Overnight guests and conference attendees who are not affiliated with Indiana University or Purdue must have a Network Access account to use the wireless network, which IU administers.
Overnight guests receive their Network Access accounts at check-in. If you're attending a conference and are not an overnight guest, check with the conference organizers when you register to see if an account has been prepared for you. If you're planning a conference and would like to provide Network Access accounts to attendees, contact University Place in advance so that the accounts can be prepared before the conference.
If you have an IU Network ID and your computer is registered on the IU network, you must use the IU Secure wireless network instead of following the directions below in order to get full access to IU services. See About IU Secure wireless.
How to access the network
- If necessary, enable your wireless network connection, and disable
your LAN (wired) connection. (If you use your computer only to make
wireless connections, you shouldn't need to do this.)
- Enable your computer to obtain IP addresses automatically.
(University Place uses a DHCP server.)
- From the available wireless networks, select
University Place Guest Wireless.
- Open a web browser. You will be directed to the University Place
login page.
- Use your Network Access account username and password to log in as
a guest user.
Note: If you are affiliated with Purdue, connect through your VPN client as you would normally do on your home campus.
You will have wireless network access in public areas of the hotel and conference center. Sessions time out after eight hours, after which you will need to log in again.
Note: Your guest network connection is not encrypted. Please ensure that you protect your computer and data by using secure programs and protocols such as VPN, secure email, and secure terminal connection programs like SSH. You should also have the firewall activated on your computer, and use antivirus software with the latest antivirus definitions. Also, make sure that your operating system patches are up to date. If you do not have administrative rights for your computer, you may not be able to make the computer configuration changes needed to connect to the wireless network at University Place.
Wired access
Hotel rooms in University Place also have data jacks for wired Internet access. If you have a Network Access account, you can use it to access the wired network. If you have an IU Network ID and your computer is registered on IU's network, you need to make a VPN connection as you would for wireless access.
