In the Oncourse Original Test and Survey tool, how can instructors monitor test submissions using the Response Menu?

Note: The Original Test and Survey tool will be completely replaced by Tests & Surveys as of August 16, 2012; see About the retirement of Original Test and Survey.

In the Original Test and Survey tool, you can use the Response Menu to monitor testing activity, and determine if anyone exceeds the allotted time for a timed assessment.

To use the Response Menu:

  1. Log into Oncourse at: https://oncourse.iu.edu/
  2. From the menubar, select Original Test and Survey.

  3. Use the drop-down list to select a test, and then click Go.

  4. Click Response Menu, and then click View All Responses.

On the All Responses screen, you will see student responses in a table with the following columns:

  • Name: Full name of the student
  • User: Username of the student
  • Time: Time elapsed from when the student clicked OK to begin the test (Note: The student may be able to view the first questions on the test for some time before actually clicking OK. You can use the logs to check for any time discrepancies.)
  • Returned: The date and time the student submitted the test
  • IP: The IP address of the computer used to submit the test

Note: Discrepancies in the logs may be the result of network and/or system difficulties, and should not be regarded as concrete evidence of academic dishonesty. For more information about what can affect timed assessments, see Time allotment problems using autosubmit in the Original Test and Survey tool. If you have questions regarding the details of the logs, contact your campus Support Center.
