Using Oncourse, how do I edit a page in my site's wiki?

To edit a wiki page in your site:

  1. In your site's menubar, click Wiki, and navigate to the page you wish to edit.

  2. At the top of the page, click Edit.

Note: If you receive a "Permission Denied" message, you don't have the appropriate permissions needed to update pages. If you think this is a mistake, contact the site leader.

  3. Make your changes in the text box.

You'll find several icons and links just above the editing field for formatting text and inserting tables, links, and images; when you click these, Wiki will automatically insert the appropriate notation into the editing field. Use the tabs to change between Edit and Preview modes. To the right of the text box, under "Wiki Tips", you'll see a partial list of the codes used for text formatting. To view the full list, at the bottom of the sidebar, click More Hints on Wiki formatting.

Note: In sites created before June 2009, the sidebar will be titled "Help Tips" instead; to view the full list, click FULL HELP PAGE near the top of the sidebar.

You can also consult a table of the Most Common Markup Notation in the Sakai Wiki Tool from the University of Delaware. (Oncourse is Indiana University's implementation of Sakai.)

  4. Once you're satisfied with your changes, click Save. Check the box next to Minor Change for small updates that do not require notification or updates to the RSS feed. To cancel, click Cancel.

Note: If another site participant edits and saves the page while you're editing it, when you attempt to save your changes you will see a message saying that the page has been altered. The other person's page will be displayed above yours. To overwrite these changes and preserve your own, click Overwrite. To keep the other person's changes and cancel your own, click Save.
