In IUCAT Classic, how do I search using an ISBN or ISSN number?
Note: The new version of IUCAT (previously called IUCAT Beta) has replaced IUCAT Classic as the default option for searching IU's library catalog. The Libraries will maintain IUCAT Classic into 2014. For more, see What is the new IUCAT?
To search IUCAT Classic using an ISBN or ISSN number, in the field
next to "keywords anywhere", enter the ISBN without hyphens or the
ISSN with hyphens. Then click Search.
Occasionally, you may need to use the appropriate Machine Readable Catalog (MARC) field tag as well. To do so, enter the ISBN or ISSN as described above, followed by the appropriate MARC field tag in curly brackets. The MARC field tag for ISBN numbers is 020; the MARC field tag for ISSN numbers is 022.
For example, to search for the fifth edition of the MLA Handbook
for Writers of Research Papers using the ISBN and MARC field
tag, in the field next to "keywords anywhere", enter 0873529758
{020}. Then click Search.
For help using IUCAT Classic, see IUCAT Library Help Topics.
For a complete list of MARC tags, see Field/Marc Tag Searching.
