ARCHIVED: In Internet Explorer, what are third-party browser extensions, and how do I disable them?

In Internet Explorer, third-party browser extensions are plug-ins that integrate with the browser and are intended to enhance your browsing experience. These typically take the form of a toolbar with a search feature, pop-up blocker, form auto-fill, and other features. Some of the more popular third-party browser extensions include:

These toolbars can block legitimate web sites and prevent you from getting information or material. Also, having too many plug-ins installed can significantly impact Internet Explorer's performance. To disable third-party browser extensions:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options....
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Browsing, uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart).
  4. Restart your computer.
