In Windows Vista, how do I install Palm HotSync software?

To install Palm HotSync software on a Windows Vista computer at Indiana University:

  1. Download the latest version of the Palm HotSync Software from the Palm web site.

  2. Open the installation files. If necessary, from the security pop-up box, select Run.

  3. If you are not already logged into the Vista computer as an administrator, enter your administrative credentials, and then click OK.

Note: If you do not have an administrator account, see In Windows, how do I create an administrator account?

  4. Select your preferred installation language, and then click OK. When prompted, click Next.

  5. Accept the Software License Agreement, and then click Next.

  6. Leave Download latest settings from the Internet (recommended) checked, and click Next.

  7. Click Next again; this will install the Palm HotSync software to the default location.

  8. After the installation finishes, click Finish.

  9. You will be prompted to synchronize your Palm device with the HotSync software. Click Next on the Installation Shield Wizard to begin the synchronization process.

  10. When prompted for a username, use your name and not your ADS or IU Network ID username. Click Next.

  11. Choose the synchronization method you wish to use with your Palm handheld. Click Next.

  12. When prompted, plug your Palm Sync cable into the USB port and, with the device connected, press the HotSync button on the cable.

  13. HotSync should start syncing information with your desktop. This will include information from your Outlook client if you chose that method of synchronization above.

Your device is now synced and ready to use.
