What is Mplus, and where can I access it at IU?
Mplus is a powerful statistical program for estimating a wide range of models containing latent, or unobserved, variables. Unlike other structural equation modeling software, Mplus can handle models with both continuous and categorical latent variables. It also has capabilities for estimating multilevel models, conducting Monte Carlo simulations, combining multiply imputed data sets, and handling complex sample data.
Mplus is available in the UITS Student Technology Centers (STCs) at Indiana University Bloomington. While the program's Help menu is limited, chapters from the Mplus User's Guide are available on the vendor's web site. The site also maintains an active discussion board containing answers to a wide variety of questions related to Mplus and latent variable models. A copy of the Mplus User's Guide is available from the UITS Stat/Math Center.
For more information, see the Stat/Math Center's Mplus overview. For an example using Mplus, see the Stat/Math Center's Confirmatory Factor Analysis page.
For more about statistical and mathematical software, email the UITS Stat/Math Center, visit the center's web page, or phone 812-855-4724 (IUB) or 317-278-4740 (IUPUI). The center is located in Bloomington at 410 N. Park Avenue, and is open for consultation by appointment Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
