At IUB and IUPUI, how do I create a UMS voice mail distribution list from my telephone?

A Unified Messaging Service (UMS) voice mail distribution list or personal group can be useful if you frequently communicate by voice mail with groups of multiple users.

After you have accessed your UMS voice mail (see In UMS, how do I check my voice mail?), to create a distribution list:

  1. Press 5 to access Manage Personal Options.

  2. Press 5 to access Administrative Options.

  3. Press 1 to access Personal Groups.

  4. Press 2 to add a new Personal Group number; group numbers can be from 2 to 32 digits.

  5. Press 1 to add new members. You may add members by their 10-digit telephone number, or you can press 2 to use Dial By Name.

To send a message to a distribution list, access your voice mail and then:

  1. Press 4 to Send a message.

  2. Press 3 for Personal Groups.

  3. Enter group number followed by  # .

  4. Press  # .

  5. Record your message.

For help learning how to use UMS, view the UMS Voicemail Training Video, or print the UMS Wallet Card of common shortcuts.

If you have questions about your UMS account on an office phone, contact Enterprise Telecom Consulting at 812-856-2287 (IUB) or 317-274-3004 (IUPUI). Campus housing residents at IUB and IUPUI should contact Campus Housing Telephone Services at 812-855-4455. (This call is free from any campus phone at either campus by dialing 5-4455.) To report trouble with UMS, call 812-855-2111 (IUB) or 317-274-3004 (IUPUI).
