ARCHIVED: At IU, how does the 2007 change in DST start and end times affect me?

Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday in November in the US. For exact dates, see What are the start and end dates for Daylight Saving Time in the US?

This document includes information about how your computer, PDA and other devices, and Exchange calendar may be affected. If you have questions about any of the information below, contact your campus Support Center.

On this page:

Personal computers

If you updated your operating system before the switch to DST in spring 2007, and you haven't upgraded or reinstalled your operating system, you do not need to take any further action.

If you have upgraded or reinstalled Windows XP or Mac OS X since DST began in March, double-check that you have the latest service packs and updates installed. Windows Vista included the new DST settings at release, so no patching or updating is needed.

Mobile devices

For information about updating your mobile device, see ARCHIVED: About mobile devices and DST

Email clients and Exchange calendars

If you use a mail client (e.g., Outlook) to manage your Exchange calendar, and you updated your calendar before the switch to DST in spring 2007, you most likely do not need to take any action now. If you ran the Outlook Update Tool, do not run it again.

If you are using a version of Outlook prior to 2007, double-check any single-instance appointments on your calendar that fall between October 28 and November 4 (the period between the former and the current DST end dates). Because of the way single-instance appointments in Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003 store time information, the update tool could have incorrectly updated an appointment if it was created in one of these clients on a patched operating system. Single-instance appointments in Outlook Web Access (OWA), Outlook 2007, and other applications based on Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) do not have this problem.

Office phones and pagers

If you have a Meridian Business Set (Meridian M5300 series) that displays the time and date, you'll need to change the time either just before or just after the switch to DST. For instructions, see On my Meridian Business Set telephone, how do I change the time? Single-line Caller ID sets will automatically reset to the correct time when they receive a call after the time change; you do not need to change the time on these telephone sets.

If you have a pager, you'll need to change the time zone setting on it just after the switch to DST. For instructions, see On my pager, how do I update the time zone setting?
