At IU, what are Extranet accounts?
UITS maintains some computing accounts for people who are not officially part of Indiana University yet still need limited access to IU services, including former students, alumni, former employees and students in the School of Continuing Studies. These accounts are collectively known as Extranet accounts.
Extranet accounts allow users to authenticate through IU's Central Authentication Service. This gives them access to certain IU web applications to perform such tasks as paying the bursar, checking grades, and accessing alumni resources. However, these accounts do not have any access to IU network resources such as VPN, Student Technology Centers, or the modem pool.
Extranet accounts are distinct from Guest accounts, Network Access accounts, and Conference accounts.
