ARCHIVED: As a researcher at IU, how can I get free consulting and programming help to use supercomputers on the TeraGrid?

The NSF-funded TeraGrid offers free consulting help for researchers who want to do massive calculations on the TeraGrid through the Advanced Support for TeraGrid Applications (ASTA). This program associates one or more TeraGrid staff members at a minimum of 25% FTE with a user's project for a sustained effort aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of application software and TeraGrid resources to support a project's scientific goals.

ASTA will help applications make intensive use of resources attached to the TeraGrid. Examples of innovative application scenarios that may benefit from ASTA support include multiclustering; parameter sweeps; ensemble runs; different but linked models on possibly heterogeneous systems; large scale computation with remote data storage or visualization; checkpointing and steering with code and data migration; computation with live data processing and assimilation; and distributed data mining leveraging central data collections.

Consulting for Indiana University researchers is available through UITS. However, if the supercomputer that best matches your research needs is at another TeraGrid site, ASTA may offer you access to expert help for such remote supercomputers. For additional information on how UITS can help you use the TeraGrid, and get computing time and/or consulting help at no cost, email the High Performance Applications group.
