In Mac OS X, if I have a VPN connection over the campus wireless network, why can I still not access IU sites?

If you are having difficulties connecting to Indiana University sites even after making a VPN connection, you may need to adjust your settings. The first thing to try is to clear your browser's cache. For instructions, see How do I clear my web browser's cache? If the problem persists, adjust your VPN settings so that all network traffic is routed through your VPN connection. Follow the appropriate instructions below.

Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)

  1. If your VPN connection is active, disconnect it. Then from the Apple menu, select System Preferences... .

  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.

  3. On the left side of the "Network preference" pane, click the interface representing your VPN settings. VPN settings are represented with a padlock icon to their right.

Note: If the padlock in the bottom left of the preference window is closed, click it, and then authenticate for an administrator account on your Mac.

  4. Click the Advanced... button. In the sheet that appears, under the Options tab, click to check the box next to send all traffic over VPN connection. Click OK.

  5. Click Apply to save your change.

Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger)

  1. If your VPN connection is active, disconnect it.

  2. From your Applications folder, open Internet Connect. In the Internet Connect window, click the icon representing your VPN setting. It should be represented with a padlock icon.

  3. From the Connect menu, select Options.... In the sheet that appears, in the "Session Options:" section, make sure the box next to Send all traffic over VPN connection is checked. Click OK.
