Oncourse CL ePortfolio Wizards: Overview

What it does

In ePortfolio, a wizard is a framework for guiding students (or another group of users) through the process of creating a learning or assessment portfolio. There are two types of wizards:

  • Step-by-step wizards present the portfolio pages in a linear progression, and the order in which the pages are exposed is fixed.

  • In outline wizards, the titles of pages making up the portfolio are organized into lists under descriptive headings. You can access pages in an outline wizard in any order.

Each wizard page contains instructions, a button for uploading or attaching files, and links to forms for writing reflections, feedback, and evaluations. Some pages may also contain one or more customized data entry forms.

Following the guidance in each page, students add materials (e.g., documents, videos, images) from Resources to document their learning or achievement. They may also be prompted to write a reflection before submitting the page for evaluation. After the page is submitted, a designated evaluator (or group of evaluators) reviews the contents of the page and completes an evaluation form.

Key concepts

Goal-linking: Some wizard pages may be linked to course, program, departmental, or university goals. When pages are linked to goals, goal information appears at the bottom of the page.

Note: Wizards are highly customizable. The number of pages, their titles, and the contents in each page can vary widely from one wizard to the next. The instructions presented in this and other help documents are generalized and may not exactly reflect the contents and appearance of the wizard with which you are working.
